Witch hazel is a shrub found abundantly in Canada but is now also cultivated in Europe. The Virginians have known about it for centuries and say they used it for bleeding and inflammation (especially hemorrhoids), which is not surprising given that it is a plant that promotes venous circulation. It is also astringent, vasoconstrictor, and mildly hemostatic.
In cosmetics, it is used on combination and oily skin, but also on sensitive and irritated skin (skin inflammation, irritation, redness, atopy).
