It is a 1 or 2 meter tall, slow-growing shrub. Its needle-shaped leaves, arranged in spirals, are green, ending in a pointed, somewhat hard apex. The plants are separated into female and male members. The flowers appear in spring and the female ones bear fruit in autumn. The fruits are spherical and grayish green in color and turn black when they ripen, after 18 months.
